Finding Ladders.
2x Gold Medalist Paralympian. SI Swimsuit Model. 2018 ESPY Winner – Best Female Athlete w/ a Disability. Mom.
Brenna Huckaby is a two-time gold medalist in snowboarding at the 2018 Paralympics, a mom after the doctors said it wouldn’t happen; and the first Paralympian to be featured in the SI Swimsuit issue. She also took home the 2018 ESPY for “Best Female Athlete with a Disability” in July. Don’t tell this cancer survivor there’s anything she cannot do. A nationally-ranked gymnast at 14 years old when she lost her right leg above the knee to osteosarcoma, she stared down cancer and came out the other side when she discovered snowboarding, a new sport to fire her passions.
This wise 22-year-old said it best in an Instagram post earlier this year, “Snowboarding for me is more than the medals and the competition. It is my freedom. It is my happy place and my get away. I never started snowboarding to be successful, I started snowboarding to find a purpose. Everyone wants to feel important and snowboarding made me feel that. When gymnastics was ripped away from me at 14, I was lost and in a deep hole, snowboarding was my ladder out. I know many people have been through a life struggle and my advice in facing adversity is find your ladder. It may be enough to find a job or completely change your life. You don’t know until you try.”
